This weather is insane. My father is convinced it means that we're going to be slammed with another huge snow storm in like May. I told him that while that might happen in Massachusetts (it hasn't even hit 70 there this week), it is unlikely that it will happen in DC. We're well into spring, folks! And if it does snow, I'm murdering the weather gods.

This outfit was really uninspired. My office is significantly warmer than the museum itself, so I'm never sure what to wear. Needless to say, I was freezing on the way to work, but fine all day!

Also, I found my hot pink headband! Hooray! Neons!

Where I Wore It: Work and Happy Hour for a friend's birthday (3/14/12)

My office is so hot. It's disgusting, particularly since when you walk immediately out of the doors the temperature drops about 10 degrees. Alas. Today I planned better and am wearing a shirt with shorter sleeves.

I first saw this skirt on Alison of Chain Strap Purse. I loved it so I hopped on over to Old Navy to see if it was there (it was and it was $9.97..and is now sold out...). Score. I wish it were about 3/4 of an inch longer (I'm tall and I'm anal retentive about length), but the medium was too huge, so I had to go with the small. However, I love it. It's got a fun pattern, but it's still neutral colors. Perhaps I will make a venture into pattern mixing soon?

My camera batteries died, so this is the only picture I got. Alas.

Also, learned this morning that Union Station is getting a Jamba Juice. SO HAPPY.

Where I Wore It: Work (3/13/12)

HELLO SPRING. It's wonderful to see you. And boy, did spring come with a vengeance. Yesterday it was about 80. Today it will be about 80. Weather.com said tomorrow will be 86 (WHA..?). This is wonderful. Except my closet/me/my pasty white legs are not prepared for spring just yet, but we'll have to make do!

I'm just so happy that it's warm and sunny and I can sit outside at lunch. Because lord knows I can't see the sun in my windowless office!

But running on the mall is a great pleasure (except I was melting yesterday!). I love spring in DC. Except when my allergies kick in. I'll give it another couple weeks and then I will become a chronic mouth-breather. Unfortunate.

1. Words: I get really, unnecessarily bothered by people who say "funner" or "funnest." I'm sorry, those are not correct. It's "more fun" or "most fun." I will correct you, no matter who you are. We'll just blame my English-teacher mom.

2. Fear: I have an irrational fear of things jumping out at me. I don't like haunted houses or creepy movies where things randomly pop out for that reason. It's so bad that I used to sprint to get the mail from the mailbox at my parents' house (it's across the street near the woods) because I was afraid a rabid animal was going to jump out and grab me. ~~I still might.~~

3. Childhood: When I was a kid, The Little Mermaid was my favorite movie of all time. We also had a house in Maine, so I spent a lot of time at the beach. Hence, I used to act out the entirety of the movie (lines, songs, everything) while at the beach/at my aunt and uncle's campground. I distinctly remember running around with a plastic bag full of ~~junk~~ treasures and combing my hair with a fork. Which then got stuck. I would also cease talking because, well, obviously Ursula had taken my voice away. My family loves to share this story with everyone.

With DC's sudden jump into late spring-esque temperatures this week, my thoughts have turned to the beach and how badly I want to go this summer (alas, unless I take a trip to MA, I don't see that happening).

However, in order for that to happen, I really need a new bathing suit. I normally go the 2-piece route, but always end up with a really bad sunburn on my stomach (which always remains white...despite sunburns that fade to tans everywhere else on my body). Enter ModCloth and their lovely retro-inspired bathing suits. I love the cut of this one, it looks flattering and I love the deep emerald color (jewel tones are the way for me to go).

Let's go summer. It's time for vacation.

Where I Wore It: Work and out for yummy margaritas and Mexican food

Full disclosure, this belt looks like decoration, but it was in reality an attempt to hold up my skirt, which has suddenly gotten rather large in the waist and tighter elsewhere. I can tell you, it did not work as planned. Perhaps a trip to the tailor is in order. I love this skirt. It has buttons on the back!

I think spring has finally sprung in DC. It's going to be in the 70s all week (it might even hit 80!) and I'm really excited. Even though I have no idea what I am going to wear, I am going to enjoy it while it lasts. It will probably be 45 again next week, with the way the weather has been lately!

In other news, my brother's hockey team got kicked out of the playoffs last night :(. However, they lost to BU (my alma mater) so I guess that's ok! And, that means he might come see me this week, since it's his spring break! Hooray! I never get to see him, so this will be nice. And he's finally 21, so we can do adult things.

Also, I ran/walked (emphasis on the walk...) 6 miles yesterday! I'm so proud of myself. Maybe someday I'll actually be able to run the entire distance....

Today I Want: More Pink

I seem to have fallen back in love with pink. It's my favorite color, and all my clothes used to be pink, but in the past couple years I've branched out and explored other color options. However, with spring on the way and coral such a ubiquitous color right now, I want it all over my life again.

I also really like the return of pointy-toed heels. Even though they hurt even more than regular heels and I can hardly walk in them, they just make your legs look nice. And when they have cute pink bows on them and a pink heel, well, let's just say I might sacrifice a few toes for them.

As anyone who has been to a beach with me can tell you, I love sailboats. Love. I think they are one of coolest, prettiest things you can see on the water. Ever since I was a kid, I'd beg my parents to take me on a "sailing vessel" when we were in Maine (alas, it never worked). I really want a sailboat, and I'd love to learn how to sail (even though I'm actually terrified of it, unless it were a fairly large boat).

So, when I saw this adorable, sailboat-covered shirt from Old Navy, I got really excited. Lots of tiny, pink sailboats. 800 sailing vessels, all in one place. I'll have to tell my dad.

I have been absolutely terrible about getting up this week. Probably because I am seemingly incapable of going to bed early. Therefore, my outfits have been really uninspiring. Because, god forbid, I should try to plan outfits out in advance.

That would be just too easy.

This picture was meant to demonstrate the lipstick I was wearing, but somehow it looks really different when I put the picture in Blogger vs. when I was editing it in Photoshop. Weird. But anyways, it's Covergirl's Blast Flipstick in Cheeky. One end is an orange-y red and the other is a pinkish shimmer. I usually wear the red end and then put the shimmer over it (otherwise it's very matte). It's actually very good quality, and for those of you that don't want to spend the money on Nars' Heatwave, this color is very similar (I did a test in Sephora the other day). When I apply a base of lip balm and then line my lips to prevent feathering, it lasts for hours. I still had a stain on my lips when I left work! And it's $7.99 at CVS. What's more to love?

Where I Wore It: To Work (3/6/12)

As you can see, my tripod has arrived! Now I just need to practice with it (and my camera settings...)! I don't have a DSLR, so I am forced to use the timer function. It works fine, but there are different settings (like shooting when it sees a smile or a wink) that I need to play around with. I also can't wait for it to get lighter/warmer out so I can take pictures outside. There's less fiddling to be done with the settings to reduce noise (and let's be honest, I have no time in the mornings with which to fiddle) that way.

In other news, I'm wearing heels! It's a miracle. I love my new booties. They gave my a really bad blister on my toe, but whatever. New favorite shoes. And they aren't terribly uncomfortable.

And my legs really do look better in heels. I hate when my mother is right.

Beach House Love

A couple of years ago, I gifted my mother with a subscription to Veranda. She's a huge interior design buff, and loves looking at magazines for ideas. I, too, like the magazine, but more for the pretty pictures of houses I would like to live in than for ideas on how to decorate my own rental property!

This lovely Santa Barbara beach house caught my eye while I was browsing the magazine's website. Being born and raised in Massachusetts, I spent most of my summers at the beach. My grandparent's had a house in Maine and we would just go up and stay for ages. I'm frequently most happy while near the ocean. It makes me terribly uncomfortable that I live so far away from it here in DC.

Even though the aesthetic of a California beach house is (understandably) much different from that of a New England, I really like this particular space, which is a combination of modern and rustic. It speaks more to "nature," as a whole, than simply "beach." Despite being a complete city girl, I really like a rustic sort of feel to spaces and architectural details. Go figure.

And look at those views!

For the most part, my thoughts have totally turned to spring. However, I recently purchased my first pair of booties (on sale!) and can officially say that I am as obsessed with them in real life as I have been with them in the blogosphere. Now I want more. I love the cap-toe on these (even though it's the same color) and I love the leather band detailing. And the stacked heel. And those cute little cross details. And the color.

I can imagine so many outfits to wear them with, even into spring!

Saturday night, A. and I made the trek to H St. (soo much closer to our house than I thought it was) to meet K.G. at her friend's birthday party at Biergarten Haus. I've discovered another favorite bar (slash H St is awesome, how had I not been there at night yet?). Except, due to it still technically being winter, the bier garten portion of the bar was closed (I think). But they still have excellent beers (4 different Hefeweizens! I was supposed to try them all, but I only made it through two...) and it's fun. And surprisingly not crowded.

Then A. and I got pie from Dangerously Delicious Pies. Seriously delicious.

Little Facts

This week, I am participating in Little Facts, which is hosted weekly by Rebecca of See Me Rwar. Her blog is awesome and you should check it out and participate! It's a great way to get to know one another!

1. Pet Peeve: The noise one makes while clearing their throat/hacking up a lung/choking etc etc etc. I cannot stand it. It's disgusting and makes me seriously unhappy. I realize, however, that it is sometimes unavoidably (and that I am guilty of making said noise when I am sick), but it's still really gross. GACK.

2. Food: I love macaroni & cheese. No, really, love macaroni & cheese. I will eat any kind and any brand at any time. It's my biggest weakness, and I seriously could happily eat it for every meal. I'm not allowed to buy it anymore. I'm not even allowed in the grocery aisle where it lives, unless its absolutely necessary. Don't bring it near me, because there's a good chance I will just stare at it and salivate until you just give it to me.

3. Guaranteed Happy: A good book. I'm obsessed; I love reading. One of my favorite activities is staying up all night reading a book because its so good I just can't put it down. Give me awesome characters and a great plot and I'm happy.

The Ballerina Project

Sometimes, while I am spending hours on the black hole otherwise known as Pinterest, I find some truly extraordinary and beautiful things. Case in point, The Ballerina Project.

The Ballerina Project, images from which can be found on it's Facebook page, is a series of photographs spanning 10 years and all taken by New York-based photographer, Dane Shitagi. The project is "not 'dance photography' but an etching of a ballerina's heart and emotions," and depicts professional dancers in various locations throughout New York City (and a few in Boston and Shitagi's native Hawaii).

The photos are, in short, spectacular. They are a melding of the real, raw atmosphere of city life with the serene beauty of ballet. They celebrate the power and beauty of both. The dancers, while frequently the centerpiece of the photograph, are also merely a prop for Shitagi's larger depiction of city-living, standing in for the everyday person going about their business.

As a lover of both photography and dance, this project completely captivated my attention. I literally spent hours looking at every single image in the photo albums on Facebook. Born to a mother who had danced her entire life, I was put into dance classes beginning at the age of three. While I left them six years later to pursue horseback riding, the basics of dance have stuck with me. My feet turn out, and I find it very comfortable to stand in first position. Ask me to extend my arm, there's a good chance I'll have "ballet hands."

While I haven't danced seriously in years, only taking a few recreational classes in college, the beauty of it has stuck with me. The strength and effort hidden behind such effortless beauty and grace speaks to me. And Shitagi's photographs capture that. And they speak to me too.

This is art in it's finest form.

OOTD: So Much Rain

Where I Wore It: To work and then in a rainstorm (3/2/12)

Last Friday, when I wore this, I had grand visions of going to work and then heading to Arlington to hit up the mall and, more specifically, DSW. Shoe heaven. Instead, when I left work, raring to go, at 4:30, it was pouring. I mean pouring, the kind of rain where it just pools all over the sidewalk because DC has terrible drainage. Of course, when I checked the weather that morning, I didn't see rain in the forecast (we'll overlook that my mother in Massachusetts apparently heard on the news that we were going to get slammed down here with a rainstorm yet I didn't?), and so I left the house in cute and comfy flats that would be easy to slip on and off for trying on shoes and clothes.

Fast-forward 35 minutes (hell if I was going to venture down to VA and schlep around the mall in that weather), and I arrive at home, completely soaked from the knees down with shoes literally squelching and gushing water. Now these flats, which I adore, have already survived (mostly) one rain storm. But I'm not sure they survived this one. When I kicked them off just inside the front door, the inside was peeling off and stuck to my foot! :(

I left them out to dry, and I haven't inspected the damage yet. It's probably time I threw them out (they aren't even leather...), but I love my little pink snakeskin flats!

Tory Burch Crisscross Wedge Espadrilles, $195

I went to DSW this weekend on a hunt for some new flats (mine are all dead or dying). Apparently, however, I missed flats season (there weren't even flats in the clearance section!)? Instead, the store was filled with sandals, really bright, sky-high (and not work/walking appropriate) heels, and wedges.

I had a revelation while standing in the middle of the ladies' shoes section. I love all wedges, like these by Tory Burch. I am so glad they are still in style and seem to have been for a few years now. For some reason, while I have a lot of trouble walking and standing in most heels (I'm getting better, I promise), I don't have those same problems in wedges. Probably because they are flat on the ground, instead of having two poke-y points of contact. And they look so cute with shorts and summer clothes.

I cannot wait! I can think of so many nautical-themed outfits to wear these with!

After taking a gander at the Spring 2012 collection (which is really cute, you should all check it out), I picked one shirt and styled it!

I absolutely love this shirt. I'm an east coast girl, born and raised, and it looks extra comfy and soft. Since it is black and gray, I decided to go with a little bit of a rocker look, incorporating spring's trend of colored jeans. I do a lot of walking around the city so I'm always in flats, and these are classy and comfortable. Also, how cute is that necklace?

Spring is in the air! I don't think it's here to stay, but it was really nice yesterday. So nice that we got to eat lunch outside and I didn't have to wear a jacket! I love nice weather.

In honor of March/spring/the warmth, I broke out this extra bright coral sweater that I picked up on sale at Anthropologie last fall. I love colors and this is one of my favorites!

This week has been extra long week (don't know why). I'm glad its over.

I need to expand my bracelet collection. I have several, but I never wear them. Bracelets get in the way when I'm typing/using my mouse! I also seem to have a lot of trouble stacking them, without them all just jumbling over one another.

But I really like these enameled ones, which have a combination of brights and pastels, and the always classy black and white. And they are zigzags!

I'm not going to stop using Pinterest, because I think it is a great concept and allows you to share and promote yourself and others via the web. However, please make sure you give credit where credit is due. Each thing you pin lists the source from which it came (and also a "via insert someone" if you've repinned it). Go to these sources. These pictures are the property (and I won't claim to even begin to understand intellectual property rights, even though I work in museums and this made up a large portion of my master's degree-related discussions) of the bloggers/artists/designers who took and/or made them. Go visit their blogs/websites. Explore where the images and pins came from. Let them know you aren't completely ignoring them because Pinterest removes you one step from the originators. Repin directly from the sites, or ask for their permission to use the images, etc.

As I said, I won't be stopping my Pinterest use (personally, I like pinning my own images and hope that you guys share them - so long as no one claims that they are anyone's but mine). But this whole debacle has made me think a little bit more about how I use Pinterest. I hope it does the same for you

This has been the weirdest winter. One day its 65, the next it's freezing again (at least there's no snow). While yesterday was not freezing, per se, it was rainy. So unhappy. At least it was mostly not raining when I had to walk outside. It was, however, pouring when I had to walk the dog. Not pleasant.

My tripod should be arriving today! I'm really excited, even though that means I am going to have to play around with it a lot (and probably be more late to work in the morning than I already am). Yay for better pictures soon (let's hope)!

Kate Spade New York "Siren" Ruffle Hem Sheath Dress

Now that the weather is slowly warming up (please stay that way), my thoughts are consumed with all the fun dresses and skirts I can wear this spring and summer. I have quite a few stashed away in my closet, but I'm always on the lookout for more.

In particular, I am looking for cute, but classy, dresses that are more form-fitting. I'm built pretty much like a ruler (i.e., straight as a board, absolutely no butt - at least I have a chest), so I need to create curves where there aren't any. This is why I'm a big fan of dresses like this one, which follows the line of the body and has a skinny belt to nip in at the waist, giving the illusion of one.

It's also pink. And there is a ruffle on the bottom. Triple win.

Where I Wore It: Work and Georgetown (2/28/12)

I was rifling around in my closet over the weekend looking for my skirts (all of which had somehow ended up in the back along with my dress pants - clearly you can see how long its been since I needed a "business casual" look and I stumbled across all my jackets! Now, I was aware of my blazers (not that I wear them...) but I forgot all about this little jewel (similar to the one seen here that I wore for last week's Find it Friday). I completely forgot how much I like cropped jackets (I like my shirts really long because I have a long torso and cropped things over it works), and now that I've gotten over my weird aversion to 3/4 length sleeves over longer sleeves, I'm going to wear it all the time. Old Navy, you should make more of these!

Also, look at me mixing black and blue again! Hooray!

In other news, when did J.Crew hike their prices? I swear last time I was in there skirts were not $110! Not unless it was something special like wool. Or liquid gold. Everything was ridiculously expensive! Even the sale rack was expensive. It was a sad day, especially because their pencil skirts come in so many bright colors. Lame.

Old Navy Cap-Toe Canvas Ballet Flats, $22.94

I'm a really big fan of cap-toe shoes. I'm not sure if its the contrast of colors/patterns/textures or if I feel the add a bit of a preppy/dress vibe to simple shoes. However, I really enjoy them (particularly when they are shiny patent leather).

These are awesome versions, particularly as we are looking into spring and summer (really who wants their feet to sweat in leather shoes in a DC summer?), because they are canvas. With a neon yellow cap-toe. Neon, people. It's in, whether or not you like it (they also come in blue, which can be found here).

I can't wait to wear cute footwear and not worrying about a) my toes freezing off and b) the weather!

This weather is so in between that it's hard to dress. Its cold in the morning, ok in the afternoon. My office is cold or hot, depending on the day (if you know anything about museums, then you know that all these temperature changes are very bad). I try layering, but I never seem to be at a comfortable temperature.

I also hate all my clothes. Outlet malls, why are you so far away? Why don't I own a car so I can go to you?

ASOS Midi Dress in Squiggle Print, $53.72

The midi dress seems to be the new thing, and it's a length that I just can't quite wrap my head around. I think it looks good when its a form-fitting garment, like this dress, but could be weird if it is a looser piece.

I love the print on this dress. We can ignore that it's yellow and therefore would make me look yellow and sick. We can also ignore that it is currently only offered in petite (and I am definitely several inches above the petite section). It's so bright. I like bright.

Where I Wore It: Work and Dinner/Drinks with friends (2/24/12)

Today I am trying a little something new: Find It Friday, hosted by Rose of I Still Choose You, another really great DC-area blog. Find it Friday is simple: every Friday, you find something in your closet that you haven't worn in ages. Then you pull it out and style it. Maybe you find that you like it and maybe you won't. Either way, you'll know for sure now, right?

My found item is this blue cropped jacket! It got pushed to the back of my closet (with a lot of my other jackets), but because it doesn't have a collar, I couldn't see it and I forgot all about it! However, I was looking for something to wear over this dress (a little too tight for work, I think), and I found it again! I had already tried on all my other blazers and none of them worked. But this one totally did (even though I wish it were in another color than blue, like my dress). It's still cute and in style and looks good unbuttoned too! I can't wait to style it more frequently as it gets warmer.

In other news, apparently I have a habit of wearing nicer clothes on Fridays, rather than during the week and then being casual on Fridays. Weird.

Where I Wore It: Work (2/23/12)

It's amazing what a slight change in the cuff of your pants can do. These jeans, as are all True Religion jeans that I have tried on, are long. Way too long. I never had them hemmed because I figured since they were skinny, I could just roll them and they would be fine. So roll them I did. Always the same way - so they hit just below my ankle, as they would if I were to hem them.

Then today rolled around. It was 65 (yes that says 65. as in almost 70. in february) and I was feeling spring in the air. So I recuffed my pants so they hit a bit above my ankle (I have several other pairs of pants that are "ankle" length, but given that I'm 5'8, they are closer to capris....), slapped on my patent black flats and headed out the door.

Today was glorious. And I felt glorious because it was like I was wearing new pants.

Where I Wore It: work (2/22/12)

Realizations I made while having an impromptu outfit-making session at 10:45 last night:

1. I need to go on a diet. I have a bridesmaid's gown to be altered in exactly 4 months and to wear in almost exactly 7. I have dresses that I bought 2 years ago, have never worn or maybe worn only once or twice that are now a bit too tight. Hopefully my recent motivation for running will assist me in this.

2. None of my skirts fit properly anymore. This comes as a giant surprise. I guess I haven't had to wear them in... oh, a year? I'm not sure if its because I've lost/gained weight or if my hips have grown or if my thighs have grown (this is probably most likely the case: see above statement about running), but my pencil skirts all seem to be too loose in some areas and too tight in others. I swear they all used to fit...I wouldn't have bought them if they didn't? They're also all really long. But they are office wear... Guess I know what to include in my spring shopping.

4. I'm seriously lacking spring/warm weather clothes.

5. Wearing tights/shoes in the same color really does elongate your leg. Even when you aren't wearing heels. Even more so with heels.

6. I have a lot of cute jackets in my closet that I am excited to throw back into rotation. Warm weather, hurry up!

Halston Heritage Accordion-pleated chiffon maxi skirt, $425

I seriously love the color coral. I am also quickly becoming a fan of pleated chiffon skirts (me, the self-professed hater of pleats). At first, I only like them in shorter lengths, but I've seen some fabulous bloggers wearing maxi-length version. Well, I love maxi dresses/skirts! I'm tall so they work really well.

Now, being a fan of pleated chiffon, coral, and maxi skirts/dresses imagine my joy when I saw this beauty. Now for a minute we're going to ignore its price tag. Because I want this skirt really bad. It's pretty and it looks flow-y and light, which I really like (does anyone else find jersey maxi dresses to be really heavy?). And it would transition perfectly into spring/summer.

Did I mention already that its one of my favorite shades of pink?

Where I Wore It: to work

I love these boots. I've waxed poetic on them before, right after they arrived into my greedy, boot-loving little hands. They're stylish and such a fun color.

However, they are a smidgen too small. oooooops. I tried on both 8.5 and 9 (it was a miracle that Nordstrom Rack had both of them to try on) and the 9's felt too big. My heel was flopping out all over the place. The 8.5s were a bit too tight (Frye's run narrow), but my heel didn't move.

However, apparently my feet were having a really small day that day. Regardless, I will wear these boots until they are broken in and they fit. Or I will take them to a cobbler and have the toe box stretched, because that's really the only problem. And maybe have the heel widened as well

Does anyone know of any good cobblers in DC? I know of the one in Union Station, but Yelp has some not-so-great things to say!

In other news, it's supposed to be really warm today and tomorrow. I am excited to run on the mall and see if my new sneakers make running outside more comfortable than my old ones did!

I am so wholeheartedly a fan of the growing trend of colored pants that I can't even begin to express it. I love color. I think it is one of the greatest things about life, and it makes me so sad to see those who go about their days in neutrals. COLOR PEOPLE.

Therefore, I am so excited to add more colored pants to my wardrobe! As you can see here and here, I've already got green and light purple (I was years ahead of the trend with those ahem, ahem) pants and I want pink ones next! And red. And that pretty coral color seen above. And bright blue. And orange.

You can see the trend. Colors are good my friends. I finally feel like my desire to look like a rainbow is justified by the fashion gurus, not just by myself. It's a good day.

It felt good to dress up a little bit on Friday. As I've probably mentioned before, a dress-code at my place of employment is nonexistent (I'm not joking..people wear whatever they want). Because of that and because of my inability to plan outfits in advance so I don't have to think of them at 6:30 when I'm frantically trying to get ready, I basically throw on whatever is most comfortable and readily available. However, on Friday I knew I was going to go out for dinner and drinks and to see a movie, I planned my outfit! And I looked cute! I may have left the house without my scarf and needed to go to Macy's to buy a new one (what a shame...), but I wore a skirt (I love this skirt, its my favorite and I want to wear it every day)!

I'm slowly becoming a fan of the whole mixing colors with black thing. Growing up, my mother instilled in me several fashion rules, one of which was never (ever, ever) wear blue or brown with black because they are too similar and will look ridiculous. Well, I've decided, that so long as it isn't navy blue or a very dark brown, it is fine. And it works.

Take that, fashion faux pas.

Happy Mardi Gras!

Today is Mardi Gras! I find it to be such a random, but happy holiday. It's been ages since I actually celebrated it in anyway (we always did something in French class in high school), but I still have beads somewhere in my house and I still love looking at pictures of the insanity taking place in New Orleans!

I really need/want to go to New Orleans, not necessarily for Mardi Gras (a friend of mine went to school there and said that the city is horrifying during the 2 week celebration, particularly if you are not a party animal), but because I feel like it is a place I need to see. I'm really big on cities with history and character, which is why I adore Boston and New York so much (I find DC sadly lacking in this respect). New Orleans (and a few other southern cities I can think of, like Charleston, SC), however, have that character and history. Must visit.

MICHAEL Michael Kors Four Pocket Tweed Jacket, $175

I don't know when I decided I loved tweed. It must have been sometime in college where a lot of my professors fit that oh-so professorial and wore the tweed jackets (with elbow patches!) to school every day. It wasn't until after college, however, that I realized that tweed comes in a variety of colors and patterns. Or, perhaps, I had just never been exposed to such varieties.

Since then, I've already acquired one (vintage!) tweed blazer (no elbow patches, sadly). However, I'm on the hunt for more. I want suit-type jackets like Chanel's because, let's be real, everyone admires Madame Coco! Just a little out of the price range, however. But this jacket is a nice substitute. And it's by Michael Kors whom I think is amazing and I really want to be his friend. And own all of his bags. I'll even just take shaking his hand once.

It may come as a surprise to some of you that I actually am supposed to wear glasses. I do not wear contacts, however. Rather, my prescription is so almost non-existent - as in it hasn't changed since freshman year of college - that I just don't wear my glasses unless I have a headache or am doing a lot of reading (though with the end of my time in school, suddenly I seem to need them a lot less even for that). However, every so often I get sick of the frames I have, convince myself that my eyes have gotten worse, and go to the eye dr. Inevitably, I walk out with new glasses.

That time has apparently arrived. And I want glasses like these. Call them hipster, old-fashioned, whatever. I like them (and see here, here, and here for some awesome ladies rocking similar styles!). Except, I highly doubt I need new glasses because I highly doubt my eyes have gotten worse.

Maybe I'll buy a pair with just glass lenses and wear them as an accessory. Hmmm.

I won't lie, I'm not a fan of this holiday. It's just so overly commercialized and hyped. I'd rather curl up with a home-cooked meal, my (invisible, at this point) man, and a good movie than get dolled up and brave the masses of lovey-dovies out in public!

I have recently developed a love of leopard. Which is sort of ironic, given that my grandmother (who is a very fashionable older lady), was always obsessed with leopard looong before it was in style. She's had a puffy leopard winter coat for as long as I can remember! I used to make fun of her because I just thought it was so awful. But I think I have converted. I do not know if I would wear animal print pants, but I can certainly see myself wearing animal print shoes. Maybe a shirt.

Few thoughts: How is it already February? I hate student loans. I love my blue shoes but they are dying so I'm hoping I can find them again at DSW. It was warm again today; I hope it stays. I hurt my butt somehow while I was running yesterday. Cool.

I am unclear if this shirt was meant to be a dress or if it is a tunic. Either way, I like it. And it was $13!

Tory Burch Robinson Tote

The other day I mentioned my desire for a new carry-on bag for when I travel. I also have a desire for a new work bag. Now, there's something you should understand about me. I love purses. I usually spend more time in the purse section of stores (and the shoes....) then I do actually shopping for clothes. As a result, I have a lot of purses. What I do not have, however, are purses designed for carrying everything that I need to take to work with me on a daily basis.

Well, that is perhaps a lie. I have two very nice Longchamp Le Pliage totes (in red and black) that I love. They got me through grad school. They are hugely roomy, fit everything but the kitchen sink, and have nice long straps (which I love). They make nice carry-on bags when I don't have to carry anything in them but normal purse things (which is really only when I check a bag which is, oh, never) However, they have no interior pockets. As someone who carries makeup, gum, and assorted accessories with her, I find that it often is a problem because I have to put more small bags in to hold things so they don't get lost in the depths of the bag. Because it is huge. And things do get lost (all the time...hello keys, where are you?).

I'm also feeling that now that I am a working adult, I need a bag that fits that. I love my Longchamp bags, but they are seen most often on college campuses. Which is all well and good, but I am not in school anymore. And I want a nice leather bag that is an investment. One that is classic, will not go out of style, but still fits all the crap I lug around with me. On the hunt.

This was a long, involved explanation. Result: I want this bag. The end.

I need a new carry-on type bag and, since I have recently developed a love for (read: obsession with) stripes, this one is so perfect! It's big, i like that it has a drawstring so you can close it or leave it open at the top. I also love that its nylon, which can be easily cleaned after it get's all nasty from the icky airport security conveyor belt!

A. and I ventured off outside yesterday because the weather informed me that it was going to be a) sunny and b) almost 60. It was neither. Ok, it was sunny in the morning and it was sunny while we were on the bus. And it was sunny while we were walking around on the mall and then the sun went behind the clouds and it got cold. Boo.

But, look, my outfit photos weren't taken indoors in front of the mirror on the bathroom door! HOORAY! Thanks, A!!!

I felt really awkward taking them, however.

Spring is constantly on my mind these days. I think its because I don't see sun anymore. Even when it decides to show itself (which has been rare lately), I don't get to see it because its not above the trees/buildings when I am heading to work in the morning and it has already sunk fairly low by the time I leave work in the afternoon! Now, don't get me wrong, I'm really glad that it is even light out now when I leave work. However, I really would like to feel sunlight on my face at some point. Vitamin D deficiency!

Anywaay, I want these shoes. They are cute, sort of boho, but still classy (I will say again, Tory Burch, you are a goddess among women), and I love them. Warm weather, GET HERE.

In my opinion, everything Tory Burch touches and/or creates is gold. I love her. Her clothes are cool, sophisticated and cute! And her bags and shoes (which, I'm ashamed to admit, I get more excited about than clothes) are to die for. This particular bag is perfect, in my opinion, because its large enough to hold all the stuff (read: junk) I carry around with me on a daily basis, and I love the ivory color. It is perfect for spring and summer! Thanks, Tory, for being awesome!

Rainy Days

The federal government had a 2-hour delay today (for nothing, at least in DC). Of course, given that this was my first inclement weather situation (and because contractors aren't real people, apparently) no one informed me of how things usually roll here in the office when there's a delay. So I stayed out 2-ish hours. No one else did! Oh well, guess I'll just stay late a couple days this week to make it up. At least I got to sleep in?

Despite the lack of actual ice, the weather outside is dreary. It was dreary all weekend. It will probably be dreary all week. At least there isn't much snow. Right?

Spring, can you please hurry and get here?

Birds on a Beach by Ansel Adams (via art.com)

Photography is my favorite kind of art. And Ansel Adams is my favorite photographer. I just love the stark contrasts he makes between the darkest and lightest values of his photos. I also adore that the vast majority of his photographs are landscapes from the Western United States. I've not traveled much, particularly outside the US, but of the places I've been, the west coast is probably the most beautiful. Don't believe me? Go to Yosemite. No really. Go.

Anyway, I love this photo because its typical Adams, but it's also of a beach. As a Massachusetts girl at heart, I love the beach. It's a part of me. I'd love to get my hands on an actual print from a negative, but that isn't possible (without $$$$). So, various reproductions will have to do! Thank god for the Ansel Adams calendars that I can cut up when the year ends. Insta-art!
